Fall Color Tour to Shipshewana, Indiana

We are planning meet up in Kalamazoo at Sweetwater’s Donut Mill (3333 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo 49008). Feel free to grab a quick donut and coffee … we will be LEAVING AT 9:00! (If you can’t meet up in Kalamazoo, you are welcome to join the group at any point along the way.)

We will head south on US 131 south to CR 120 (east) heading for the Rise n Roll Bakery (1065 N 1150W, Middlebury, In 46540) in Middlebury! We are planning to ARRIVE there around 10:15.

There you can have a cup of coffee (first one is free courtesy of Rise n Roll) and try one of their amazing donuts (first one courtesy of the W MI Section). Lots of baked goods along with jams, jellies, and other goodies to peruse and purchase.

After we finish at the bakery,, we will head for Deutsch Käse Haus (Translation: German Cheese House) (11275 W. 250 N. Middlebury, IN 46540). We are planning to arrive there around 10:45. There you can try samples of many kinds of cheeses. They also have other local Amish favorites for purchase.

After the Deutsch Käse Haus, we will head for Shipshewana. There we will stop for lunch at the famous Blue Gate Restaurant (195 N Van Buren St, Shipshewana, IN 46565). The Blue Gate serves traditional Amish foods, too many to list here. Lunch will be separate tabs, but the W MI Section will be purchasing dessert for attendees.

After lunch we will head for the Hostetler’s Hudson Auto Museum (760 S. Van Buren St. Shipshewana, IN 46565). We plan to arrive there about 1:30. There we will receive a docent lead tour of the museum.

After the museum tour you are on your own to visit the local shops. Favorites include: E & S Sales (bulk food store), Yoders Hardware (hardware, housewares, fabric, shoes), and in “downtown” Shipshewana a favorite is the Davis Mercantile. Four floors of quaint shops. (If you still are hungry, try a pretzel at JoJo’s).

There will be a group still looking for more goodies. They will be meeting at 4:30 at the Das Dutchman Essenhaus (240 US- 20 Middlebury, IN 46565) in Middlebury for one last bite to eat before heading for home. Everyone is welcome to meet with us. For those die hard shoppers, there are a few shops to visit there as weil.

It looks to be a beautiful day to enjoy a ride! Please join us!!

Presidents Message

The year 2015 was a great year for the Western Michigan Section. I would like to thank the board for presenting a diverse and interesting event schedule. We all had the opportunity to meet so many new club members (and their cars!) and reacquaint ourselves with established friends.

2016 is shaping up to be another active year for the Western Michigan Section. Your board is currently developing the new calendar. We are always looking for member
input on events, so please feel free to contact any board member with suggestions or questions.

Personally, my favorite part of this past year was the opportunity afforded by club membership to meet new members and prospective future members. I look forward to doing the same in 2016, and encourage all members to take the opportunity at our events to show off your Mercedes and meet fellow enthusiasts!

As always, membership feedback and suggestions are encouraged. Please feel free to contact any board member or officer with your thoughts. I am looking forward to seeing all my Mercedes-Benz friends in 2016.

Remember, participate!
